Platforms Project 2019
Αρχείο εκPlatfo Project 201
The Platforms Project 2019, the largest art event in its history so far, will be held on Thursday 16 May to Sunday 19 May 2019, at “Nikos Kessanlis” Exhibition Hall of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), featuring a diverse parallel program of talks and meetings, video, children's programs, performances and ... parties.
As an “incubator” for emerging artists, where experimentation, research and the structure of artistic identity is a continuous demand, the exhibition space of the Α.S.F.A is also this year the ideal choice for the seventh in the history of the Platforms Project.
The main objective is the presentation of the independent art scene as it is expressed by Greek and foreign artist group initiatives, in Greece and abroad. The group initiatives aim to map artworks and current practices, as well as visual and theoretical questions posed internationally.
For this year's edition the Platforms Project presents 60 platforms from 16 countries, having received hundreds of applications at the open call via internet. Among other countries, Greece, Switzerland, Germany, USA, Netherlands, Cyprus, France, Sweden, Spain, Britain, Canada, Austria, Georgia, Finland, Serbia and Belgium are represented, while 700 artists flock to Athens, expanding the global network, which has been built and communicated in recent years through the Platforms Project. This year's event continues last year's tradition, featuring 56 platforms from 17 countries presenting their work, in front of 16,000 audience.
The aim of the Platforms Project is to be the core of creativity, showcasing the pioneering positions in art, and to develop relationships between the platforms. It is also an international exhibition, which aims to create communication channels and collaboration, to exchange projects and to promote artists internationally. The Platforms Project is not an impersonal event but an art community full of energy and freshness, giving time and space to present alternative art, that can not be expressed elsewhere.
The project is directed by Artemis Potamianou and Michalis Argyrou. Artemis Potamianou is the artistic director of the Platforms Project 2019.
Opening: Thursday 16 May 2019 at 19:00
Duration: 16 - 19 May 2019
Opening hours: 12:00 - 21:00
The Platforms Project is one of two international independent art exhibitions. A similar event is held only in Stockholm (Supermarket Independent Art Fair), which works closely with the Platforms Project, organizing joint workshops and conferences in Greece and Sweden.
The Platforms Project has been presented for the seventh consecutive year since 2013, and it is an annual international meeting of artists groups-platforms. It is an international exhibition, which aims to map how art collectives work, and create channels of communication and cooperation with other countries. In the framework of the Platforms Project from 2013 to 2018, 192 platforms were presented from 27 countries (Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Switzerland, UK, Germany, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Finland, France, Russia, Serbia, Kosovo, USA, Argentina, Turkey, Benin, Spain, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Iran, Ireland and Panama) with a total of more than 2,800 artists.
Most of the platforms which participated in the Platforms Project have created friendships and partnerships.
