 world radio day2017 01

About the World Radio Day:

"13 February is World Radio Day - a day to celebrate radio as a medium; to improve international cooperation between broadcasters; and to encourage major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality over the airwaves.

World Radio Day 2017 - International Exchange of Non-commercial Radio Shows

Radio is the mass media reaching the widest audience in the world. It is also recognized as a powerful communication tool and a low cost medium.

On 14 January 2013, the United Nations General Assembly formally endorsed UNESCO’s proclamation of World Radio Day. During its 67th Session, the UN General Assembly endorsed the resolution adopted during the 36th session of the UNESCO General Conference, proclaiming 13 February, the day United Nations Radio was established in 1946, as World Radio Day." The radio stations:

radioYpsilon
Hollabrunn, Austria
www.radioypsilon.at

radio x
Frankfurt, Germany
www.radiox.de
"Der Himmel geht weiter" is a radio show of radio x Frankfurt and since 1997, the start of radio x on air. Four independent shows are broadcasting every Friday from 7 pm to 9 pm, with a music magazine.

A show in the context of "Der Himmel geht weiter" is done once a month by Kirstin von der Heydt & Ralf Barthelmes as "Double Diamond". In their program, they present music horizontally and vertically through the record shelves, which means quite a lot of soul & country, a lot of guitar-based scrambles and always a bit of whatever else...
Never a program remains with one music genre and often they break from one to another musical genre, as one would not expect it. New releases are played in the same way as old stuff or newly discovered songs.

More information and playlists of "Der Himmel geht weiter" can be found on the radio x website: www.radiox.de/sendungen/der-himmel-geht-weiter.html

WFMU
Jersey City, NJ, USA
www.wfmu.org
WFMU is an independent non-commercial freeform radio station broadcasting from Jersey City to the New York & New Jersey metropolitan area and to New York’s Hudson Valley. The station also maintains an extensive online presence at wfmu.org, which includes six channels of live audio streaming in several formats, nearly 10 years of audio archives, over 20 podcasts, mobile applications, and a social online music library, the Free Music Archive.

Originally under the auspices of Upsala College, WFMU became independent when it purchased its broadcasting license from Upsala in 1995 prior to the college’s bankruptcy, making it one of three college stations in the country to ever manage its own independence in this way. WFMU's license is now held by Auricle Communications, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group managed by current and former WFMU staff members and listeners. The station purchased a building and relocated to Jersey City in 1998.

WFMU's programming is as diverse as the dozens of DJs who host the on-air and online program slots. It includes rock and roll, experimental music, 78 rpm records, jazz, psychedelia, hip-hop, electronic, hand-cranked wax cylinders, punk rock, gospel, exotica, R&B, radio improvisation, comedy, interviews, spoken word collages, and country and western music. Experimentation, spontaneity, and humor are among the station's most frequently noted distinguishing traits.
WFMU does not belong to any existing public radio network, and close to 100% of its programming originates at the station.

The station has a reputation as an innovator with a long-running history as an early adopter of web technologies. WFMU launched a website in 1993, began webcasting in 1997, launched its popular Beware of the Blog and was one of the first podcasters in 2005. In 2007, WFMU was the first station with an iPhone stream, and the station launched real-time web commenting on its online playlists in 2008. WFMU’s mobile apps for both the iPhone and Android contain interactive features that are still unparalleled.

WFMU has also provided assistance and leadership for other community radio stations in need, providing a web stream and fundraising services for New Orleans community radio station WWOZ following Hurricane Katrina in 2006, and providing legal and strategic advice to the National Federation of Community Broadcasters as well as dozens of independent college and community stations nationwide.

The Dusty Show with Clay Pigeon:
Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Ken Freedman:
Ken Freedman is the Station Manager of WFMU (wfmu.org), the longest running and most renowned freeform radio station in the United States.
Under his guidance, WFMU became independent of Upsala College, WFMU's original owner. Freedman also developed WFMU's internet presence, making it one of the most popular and forward looking internet radio stations in the U.S. WFMU was the first radio station to offer full on-demand listening, podcasts and a working iPhone stream. He recently founded Congera PBC which is developing the Audience Engine, an open source platform for small and medium sized broadcasters and journalists. He previousy founded the Free Music Archive (freemusicarchive.org), an online music library and social site based on curated music licensed under alternative copyrights such as creative commons licenses. He pioneered the use of copyrights and waivers to address restrictions placed on broadcasters by the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. Freedman has served on the board of public science and technology company New Brunswick Scientific Company and was a board member and technology advisor to the National Federation of Community (NFCB) broadcasters. He has spoken and presented at conferences sponsored by The Future of Music Coalition, O'Reilly Media.
